The Eddy County Sheriff’s Office has issued an update regarding the Tuesday shooting incident on Crystal Drive in Artesia that left 28-year-old Alonso Valdez of Artesia dead.

The ECSO says Dominic James Wade, 18, of Artesia, has been identified as a suspect and was subsequently arrested on charges of first-degree murder and tampering with evidence.

Wade is currently being held without bond at the Eddy County Detention Center.

 


 

ARTESIA — An Artesia man was killed early this morning in a shooting incident in the county.

The Eddy County Sheriff’s Office (ECSO) was dispatched just after 4 a.m. today to Artesia General Hospital in reference to a male individual who had been shot. Upon arrival, deputies were advised that the man, identified as 28-year-old Alonso Valdez of Artesia, was deceased.

Subsequent investigation determined the shooting occurred at 14 Crystal Drive in Artesia. Deputies and detectives responded to that address, and a homicide investigation was initiated. Several search warrants were served and interviews conducted during the course of the investigation.

The ECSO reports the incident remains under investigation as of this afternoon. Anyone with potential information regarding this incident is urged to contact Cpt. Matthew Hutchinson or Det. Robert Smith at 575-887-7551.
