ARTESIA — An Artesia man is recovering from a gunshot wound following an incident today in a local RV park.

Eddy County Sheriff’s Office (ECSO) deputies were dispatched around 6:15 a.m. today to the Ponderosa RV Park at 3204 W. Main St. in reference to a male subject suffering from a gunshot wound. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with a 40-year-old male who had been shot.

The man was transported to Artesia General Hospital before being airlifted to an out-of-state hospital for treatment. The ECSO reports his injuries were non-life-threatening, and the man is currently listed in stable condition.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and anyone with potential information is urged to contact Det. Robert Smith or Sgt. Kane Wyatt at 575-887-7551.
