LAS CRUCES — An Artesia man was sentenced to 92 months in prison this afternoon in federal court in Las Cruces on federal firearms charges.
Victor R. Castillo, 37, was also sentenced to three years of supervised release following his incarceration.
Castillo was arrested Sept. 1, 2015, on charges of being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition, and possession of an unregistered firearm on Jan. 28, 2015, in Eddy County. He was prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition due to a previous conviction for importation of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, aggravated fleeing a law enforcement officer, and possession of a controlled substance.
Castillo pleaded guilty Dec. 18, 2015, to the indictment.
The case was investigated by the Las Cruces Office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Pecos Valley Drug Task Force, which is comprised of officers with the Eddy County Sheriff’s Office and Artesia and Carlsbad police departments.
