ARTESIA — Artesia’s veterans will be honored tomorrow with a special celebration at the Artesia High School Auditorium and other events.
All third-grade students in the Artesia Public Schools system will give a performance honoring veterans at 10 a.m. Friday at the auditorium. The students will be singing patriotic tunes, including “The Star-Spangled Banner,” “America the Beautiful,” “You’re a Grand Ol’ Flag,” “Thank a Vet,” “Salute to the Armed Forces” and “Thankful for the USA.”
Following the performance, the Artesia Historical Museum and Art Center will host a reception to open its “Honoring Artesia’s Veterans” exhibit, which will be on display until Nov. 26.
The museum will remain open through the lunch hour Friday to offer the entire community the opportunity to view the exhibit, which includes military memorabilia from the museum’s collection – a different selection than in previous years – as well as “Walls of Honor” displaying photos of local veterans. Light refreshments will be served.
From noon – 1 p.m. Friday at 701 W. Main St., a “We Honor Veterans” celebration will be held, with free hamburgers and soda for veterans.
