In light of the visit, the Artesia and Roswell Chambers of Commerce are organizing a rally at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Roswell International Air Center for the purpose of urging the president to prevent the inclusion of the Dunes Sagebrush (sand dune) lizard on the endangered species list.
“We want the president to know that several federal regulations and current efforts to list a couple species on the endangered list are detrimental to livestock grazing and the production of oil and gas in Southeast New Mexico,” said Hayley Klein, executive director of the Artesia Chamber of Commerce. “Last March and April, we held several rallies. Almost a thousand local residents spoke out against the listing of the lizard at the April rally in Roswell.”
