ROSWELL – A series of legislative hearings to obtain citizen and community comments for State Legislative Capital Outlay funding has been announced by the Southeastern New Mexico Economic Development District/Council of Governments (SENMEDD).
The hearings will be held throughout the five-county region covered by the SENMEDD. Hearings will take place in Artesia, Ruidoso, Lovington and Roswell. Local governments, community-based nonprofit organizations and others seeking assistance to acquire funding aid for capital construction or equipment projects from the State of New Mexico Legislature are encouraged to attend the hearing in their county.

“It is critical that those seeking Capital Outlay funding assistance attend one of the meetings,” said Dora Batista, SENMEDD executive director.

The hearings will provide those seeking funding the opportunity to meet face to face with their local legislators to discuss their funding needs and the reasons to have the state assist with the proposed project. The proposed projects must have a project of life of at least 10 years and cost no less than $25,000. Capital Outlay projects that are approved by the Legislature and governor will be funded by State issued General Obligation Bonds, Severance Tax Bonds or General Fund Bond.

The legislative hearings are scheduled as follows:

• Thursday, Nov. 2: 9 a.m. – noon at the Chaves County Administration Building in Roswell

• Thursday, Nov. 9: 10 a.m. at the Lea County Courthouse in Lovington

• Monday, Nov. 13: 10 a.m. in Council Chambers at Artesia City Hall

• Wednesday, Nov. 15: 10 a.m. at Eastern New Mexico University-Ruidoso

The SENMEDD is the area-wide planning organization serving Chaves, Eddy, Lea, Lincoln and Otero counties and the 21 municipalities within the five counties. For more information, contact Dora Batista at dbatista@snmedd.com, Pansy Moffitt at pmoffitt@snmedd.com, or call 575-624-6131.
