When Artesia High School senior Kirsten Mauritsen leaves for college, she will leave behind a small legacy of her work.

Mauritsen has painted several murals on dumpsters in the city for Artesia Clean & Beautiful; she has also created decorations for the Alfalfa Growers Association banquet. This year, she designed the AHS Senior Salute T-shirts.

“She’s done a lot of unique projects around town,” Leah Williams, Mauritsen’s senior counselor, said. “It’s kind of a diverse body of work. She’s willing to create beauty for everyone.”

Mauritsen’s interest in art sparked when she began taking classes in the seventh grade. She continued to take classes through high school and also participated in projects throughout the community. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
