The Bulldog football team reduced the Eddy County War to a minor skirmish Friday at Ralph Bowyer Stadium in Carlsbad, besting the host Cavemen in statement-making fashion, 55-7.

Artesia turned a one-touchdown lead at the end of the first quarter into a 40-7 halftime advantage and rolled from there, setting the mercy-rule clock in motion with 5:39 to go in the third before rounding out the final in the fourth.

The ‘Dogs (1-0) will host their home opener at 7 p.m. Friday against Hobbs at Bulldog Bowl. The Eagles topped Clovis 41-13 tonight on the road.
