City council to discuss preliminary budget, announce new police chief today

The Artesia City Council will return to Council Chambers at City Hall Tuesday with several items on their agenda.

The council will discuss and present for approval the city’s 2017-18 preliminary budget and will hear a report on its 2015-16 audit from Griego Professional Services.

The promotion of Artesia’s new police chief will also be announced.

Public hearings are scheduled on a pair of ordinance amendments regarding corrections to stated street widths.

The first amendment concerns a correction to the stated width of Third Street from 40 to 50 feet, as shown in the Original Town of Artesia replat vacating Third Street from Main Street to Richardson Avenue.

The second amendment seeks to correct the stated width of Richardson Avenue from 61 feet to six feet as shown in the same replat filed in the Eddy County Clerk’s Office.

City Clerk Aubrey Hobson will present for discussion and possible approval a resolution supporting a public-private economic development project with Artesia MainStreet, the biennial Memorandum of Understanding between New Mexico MainStreet and the City of Artesia Economic Development Department, and a 2016-17 budget adjustment.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 23, in Council Chambers.
