The City of Artesia Infrastructure Department’s water crew worked through the night Tuesday into Wednesday to mitigate a major water leak along U.S. 82. Above, workers can be seen behind a perimeter of orange barrels just outside the gates of Navajo Refining Co. The Daily Press received several calls and emails about the incident, with some residents fearing a chemical spill of some sort had occurred after seeing liquid on the highway just east of First and Main streets. However, the liquid turned out to be water, with the Infrastructure Department reporting that its crew was on the job in freezing temepratures until 3 a.m. repairing the major line break.
