Resulting from Tuesday night’s council meeting, the Artesia City Council contingently added $200,000 to the Baish Park renovation, approved a resolution that changes the residency requirement for APD police commanders, and set a date for a special election in regard to Sunday alcohol sales within city limits.
Taking up most of the councilors’ discussion was the additional $200,000 requested by Tina Torres, the Director of Community Development. As Torres told the council, the $200,000 would be used for running electrical cables underground and correcting “elevation problems” that were unforeseen by contractors in the planning phase. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
According to Torres, $30,000 would be used to correct the elevation problems and $170,000 would be used to put the cables underground, which includes digging and backfilling trenches, paving and installation.
