Two Artesia students attempting to drive the SIDnE car at Tuesday’s Safety Camp. According to Sgt. Lindell Smith of the Artesia Police Department, SIDnE stands for Simulated Impaired Driving Experience and showed the students what it is like to have their driving reaction times slowed by the effects of alcohol. Sponsored by the Artesia Drug & Crime Coalition, Central Valley Electric Cooperative, Eddy County DWI and the APD, the Safety Camp taught kids the danger of drug abuse and drinking and driving as well asthe importance of using caution around electricity.
