David Conklin was appointed to fill the Artesia Public Schools Board of Education District 1 seat that was left vacant by the resignation of Becky Harwell. During Monday night’s regular meeting of the Board of Education, Board Member Carolyn Shearman made the motion to the board to appoint Conklin after Dr. Crit Caton, Artesia Public Schools Superintendant, had narrowed down the choices earlier in the month to David Conklin and Bill Thalman. Shearman cited Conklin’s ties to the farming and ranching community as a prevailing factor in her recommendation. The Board passed the nomination unanimously.
