Officers have taken statements from Artesia residents as well as the Secret Service in regard to approximately $500 in various denominations of counterfeit bills that have been circulating throughout the Artesia area in recent weeks.
Although several $50 counterfeit bills have been reported, police say it is mostly $20 bills that have been circulated thus far.
The counterfeit bills’ most distinguishing feature, say police, is that the picture on the bill doesn’t align with the edges of the paper.
