A $1 million gas treating and processing facility may be constructed in lower Eddy County pending the county’s commitment to grant Southern Union Gas Services a property tax abatement as an incentive to site a location in New Mexico rather than Texas.

Representatives from SUGS met with commissioners during the regular scheduled Eddy County Commission meeting Tuesday to present facts about the facility.

With the booming success of the gas industry in the county, SUGS is looking to expand by constructing the $1 million project on a $500,000 tract of land that will become home to between $200-$220 million of plant machinery and equipment. The facility will be twice the size of any previous company expansion and will bring 24 jobs to the area with an average wage of $80,000. In addition, SUGS expects 10 semi-professional jobs will be created to support the facility.

“We’re real excited about the area,” said Craig Knight, SUGS Operations Manager. “I’ve never seen the percentage of success as I have here; we’re in it for the long run. This is bigger than any plant we have ever had.” … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
