Devon rewards Zia for science prowess

Representatives with Devon Energy join Artesia (Zia) Intermediate School science teachers Jessica Sanders and Jawna Carlo and Principal Jim Moore this morning to present the school with a $15,000 Devon Science Giants Award for demonstrating excellence in science education. For Sanders, Carlo and the rest of Zia, the grant came as a completely unexpected surprise. According to a press release, Devon launched the award to recognize schools for helping students excel in science and preparing them for college and future careers. Along with the $15,000 grant for Zia, Devon will also be giving a $5,000 grant to PR Leyva Middle School in Carlsbad this afternoon. Moore said the grant will go toward purchasing 10 new iPads for each classroom, giving students a more interactive learning experience than before.
