Navajo briefs community on turnaround

To openly discuss Navajo Refining’s hiring of 1,000 temporary employees for the plant’s upcoming turnaround, Navajo Vice President and Refinery Manager Michael McKee and other refinery staff members held a community briefing Tuesday night at Hotel Artesia.
As McKee said, the plant turnaround, scheduled to begin next month and anticipated to last for roughly six weeks, “is all about the mechanical integrity and safe operation of the facility.” … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
“One of the things we always have to keep in mind at the refinery is maintaining the mechanical integrity and safety of all of our equipment,” McKee said. “So every four years, we periodically shut all the facilities down, open everything up to examine them to make sure everything is in perfect working order, and make sure the operability of the plant remains optimal.”
