Three-hundred Artesia residents appeared at the first meeting when Artesia’s Drug and Crime Coalition began in 2004. The coalition, a volunteer organization for education and recovery from drugs and crime, was a response to the prevalence of drugs in the Artesia community 10 years ago. According to Coalition Manager Nancy Husselman, the city was facing a severe meth problem at the time.
“I went to the first meeting, and it won my heart,” said Husselman, who has been a member of the coalition’s board of directors since it began and has served as the coalition’s manager for the past three-and-a-half years. “It was born out of a need to educate and to see what we could do to help people out.” … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
