The Eddy County Sheriff’s Office (ECSO) is continuing to investigate the murder of an Artesia man but reports it has a suspect in custody.

ECSO deputies were dispatched just before 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, to 135 E. Cottonwood Road in reference to a male subject suffering from a gunshot wound. Deputies located the subject, later identified as 37-year-old Tyler Allen Grantham of Artesia.

Grantham was unconscious and not breathing, and he later succumbed to his injuries.

ECSO detectives were called to the scene, and through investigation, they were able to identify 42-year-old Nathan Garrison, of Artesia, as a suspect. Garrison was located at a residence in the 3500 block of Quay Avenue, where he surrendered without incident.

Garrison stands charged with one open count of murder and tampering with evidence.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with potential information regarding this case is urged to contact Sgt. Kane Wyatt or Det. Josh Rodriguez at 575-887-7551.
