The Eddy County Sheriff’s Office hosted the first of several planned town hall meetings Thursday in response to recent reports of livestock being shot at or killed.
Chief Deputy Mark Cage says the ECSO met with area cattle ranchers, law enforcement officers with the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish, the New Mexico Livestock Board, rangers with the Bureau of Land Management, and law enforcement agencies from East and South Texas to discuss recent incidents and brainstorm ideas to halt future ones.
The meeting provided ranchers with ways in which they can better communicate and share information with law enforcement, as well as how ranchers can become better organized as a group to further assist one another.
The ECSO asks anyone with knowledge of cattle being killed or stolen to contact the sheriff’s office at 575-887-7551.
