A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Elizabeth Lynn Allan Flynn, Ph.D., RPH, of Artesia.

Flynn, 56, passed away Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016, at her home after a relatively short battle with cancer.

Fr. Martin Cornejo, OFM, will officiate at the services, with interment to follow at Woodbine Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Grace. A vigil will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the church.

Betsy was born April 11, 1960, in Syracuse, N.Y., to Dorothy Woodford and Harold Allan. She graduated in 1978 from Buchholz High School in Gainesville, Fla.

She earned her Ph.D. in medication error prevention from Auburn University’s Pharmaceutical Sciences Pharmacy Care Systems after receiving her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Florida and her Master of Science in Hospital Pharmacy from UNC.

Betsy married Robert Flynn at St. Michael’s Church in Auburn, Ala., before moving to Artesia. She travelled the U.S. and Europe for work after graduation, then worked as a consultant and community pharmacist for Kmart, Wal-Mart, and the Roswell Regional Hospital.

She was a member of the American Pharmacists Association, Christian Pharmacists Fellowship International, New Mexico Pharmacists Association, and a lifetime member of the New Mexico Society of Health System Pharmacists.

Betsy was quite involved in her church, Boy Scouts, Community Bible Study and the Emmaus Community. She loved Broadway musicals, especially “The Phantom of the Opera” and “Wicked,” and Artesia’s community performing arts center.

Betsy packed a lot into each day of her life to try to make it a better place to be. She always had time to be a devoted wife, mother, good friend, and confidant to all.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Flynn; son Keenan Flynn; her mother and father; sisters Cathy White and husband Don of Lutz, Fla., Debby Allan of Alberta, Canada, and Barbara Bridges and husband Pat of Minden, Nev.; brother Robert Allan and wife Sharon of Raleigh, N.C.; father-in-law Pat; mother-in-law Lynn; sister-in-law Kathy of Denver, Colo.; and many nieces, nephews, uncles and aunts.

A memorial fund has been established at Western Bank under the account number 008431406 from whence Betsy’s specific charities will be recognized.

Arrangements are under the direction of West Funeral Home of Carlsbad. Condolences may be expressed online at westfuneralhomellc.com.
