D’Mar Ortega, center, was named the Tate Branch Success Maker for the month of February during Monday’s meeting of the Artesia Public Schools board of Education. Ortega is a second-grade teacher at Abo Elementary School.

She was nominated for the award by third-grade student Miley Watson, who wrote, “Thank you for teaching me in second grade. I wish I was still in your class still and I really miss you. I wish you were still my teacher.”

Ortega is pictured alongside board members Jeff Bowman, Cheri Widmeyer, board president Lowell Irby, and board members Luis Florez and David Conklin.
