Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 8, at First United Methodist Church for Fidelia Ann Henderson of Artesia.

Henderson, 84, passed away Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016, at her home.

Rev. Monty Leavell will officiate at the services, with interment to follow at Woodbine Cemetery. Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held from 1-4 p.m. today at Terpening & Son Mortuary.

Fid was born Nov. 18, 1931, to Harold and Mittie (White) Hamill. She spent her childhood in Hope and Artesia, graduating from Artesia High School in 1949.

Fid loved life, which she lived with tremendous joy. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend. Her great wit brightened the days of many, bringing laughter and cheer.

Beloved for her listening ear, she imparted simple wisdom, reminding others of their great worth to her and God. She will be greatly missed.

She married Lenard “L.G.” Henderson on June 6, 1951, in Artesia. During their more than 60 years of marriage, the couple lived in Artesia as well as Dalhart, Alice, San Antonio and Buchanan Dam, Texas. In addition to raising her children, Fid was an incredibly supportive coach’s wife, encouraging L.G., other coaches, wives, students, and others in their community.

Upon retirement, when not tending their land in Buchanan, they spent significant time as volunteer campground hosts near Creede, Colo., and travelling to visit family and friends. After returning to Artesia in 2010, L.G. and Fid were members of First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include sons Butch Henderson and wife Karen of Plainview, Texas, and Cooper Henderson and wife Judy of Artesia; daughter Linda Prior and husband Jay of Jarrell, Texas; seven grandchildren, including Rex and wife Melissa, Jodi and husband John, Bryan and wife Carrie, Matthew, Britni, Janna and husband Chase, and Rick and wife Brogan; eight great-grandchildren, including Alexan, Charis, Asher, Annabelle, Emmeline, Hamill, L.G. II, and Caliber; brother-in-law Charles Baldwin and wife Myrna; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, L.G., on Dec. 30, 2012; her sister, Peggy Hamill Baldwin; her brother, Harold Hamill Jr.; and brother-in-law A.L. Henderson.

Memorial contributions may be made to the L.G. Henderson Scholarship Fund, which will award college scholarships to students intending to pursue football coaching careers, or a charity of choice. Contributions to the scholarship fund will be received at the Artesia High School Athletic Office.

Arrangements are under the direction of Terpening & Son Mortuary. Condolences may be expressed online at www.artesiafunerals.com.
