Take a big win over Class 4A’s sixth-ranked team, add another quality victory over a 4A opponent and a two-point loss to last year’s Class 3A state runner-up, and you’ve got an all-together solid weekend for Lady Bulldog basketball.
The Artesia girls embarked on the long road trip back from Aztec Saturday with two solid wins over Piedra Vista and Aztec and a second-place finish in the Rumble in the Jungle tournament under their belts. And with just five games separating the Lady ‘Dogs from the start of District 4-AAAA play, the team and their coaches were excited about much of what they saw on the court over the course of the three-day tourney.
“I thought this was a great tournament for us,” Artesia head coach Jeff Houghtaling said Saturday. “I was really pleased with our first two games. Coming into a tournament with only six teams in the field, it was really nice that they matched us up with the other two 4A teams, and it was great for us to be able to beat both Piedra Vista and Aztec. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
