Following a nailbiter of a one-point victory over Silver City Friday evening, the Artesia Bulldogs were confident they had run their “bus legs” off and would be ready to go for Part II of an important weekend of Class 4A basketball.
They knew the Deming Wildcats would provide the true test Saturday.

Having fallen to the ‘Cats 65-59 in the semifinal round of the City of Champions Classic Dec. 10 in Artesia, the ‘Dogs also knew Saturday afternoon’s contest was a measuring stick of sorts for just how far they’d come in the 36 days and 11 games since that first meeting. Their 71-60 win over the Wildcats, therefore, was a welcome result as the Runnin’ ‘Dogs prepare to enter the home stretch of their 2010-11 regular season.

“We started feeling a lot better in the second half of the Silver game Friday,” Artesia head coach Ike Montoya said Saturday from the road. “We looked better running up and down the floor, and the kids were moving better.
