The proclamation states domestic violence “tragically turns many homes into places of torment, disrupting the theory that our homes should be places of safety and comfort” and that the problems of domestic violence “are not confined to any group; they are prevalent in every community regardless of age, socioeconomic status, gender, religion or nationality.” The city also recognized that Grammy’s House, Artesia’s domestic violence shelter, “offers an alternative in a supportive, non-judgmental atmosphere.” Joining Burch were, from left, Pat Wood, Lauren Austin, Sheila Simer, Celina Bryant, Anna Zamora, Clara Mauritsen, Darby Vernon, Sonia Florez, Laurie Schotz and Chris Smith.
