ARTESIA — Brienne Green, long-time sports editor of the Artesia Daily Press, has been promoted to the position of editor.
Green will now be responsible for all newspaper content.
“This is finally how things should be,” said Walt Green, owner of the newspaper and no relation to Brienne Green.
“I’ve tried to get Brienne to take the editor position for several years, but she’s always been reluctant to leave sports behind.
“(Publisher) Danny Scott and I talked with Brienne and came up with a plan to allow her to take over the editor position and still cover sports as much as she wants to.”
Brienne Green has a background of more than just sports, having joined the Daily Press in August of 2001 as a staff writer before taking over the sports department in August of 2002. She has also contributed features to many special editions during her 10-year career at the newspaper and has served as the Daily Press’ interim editor.
“She’s the one we’ve always been able to count on to put the paper together whenever we were in between editors or our regular editor was sick or on vacation,” said Walt Green. “It will be great to have somebody as editor who has the experience that Brienne has. She was also born and raised here. And nobody would bleed more orange than Brienne Green.”
