On May 5, 2007, he married Jackie McClellan in Artesia.

Harvey loved to do woodworking, play golf, travel, and go to garage sales. He was an avid sports fan and played various musical instruments. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and enjoyed visiting with his children, grandchildren, and his many friends. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.

Survivors include his wife, Jackie Sellers-Thomas, of the family home; son Richard E. Thomas of Houston, Texas; daughters Brenda Sanz, Jan Paschal and husband Jeff, and Gail Vaughn and husband Jack, all of Sacramento, Calif.; stepsons Eddie Sellers and Joanna Martin of Artesia, James Sellers and wife Callie of Roswell, and Larry Sellers and wife Joni of Greenwood, Texas; stepdaughter Kandy Lopez of Faywood, N.M.; 17 grandchildren, including Savannah Odom and husband Robert; and numerous great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Calvary Baptist Church, Lakeview Hospice of Carlsbad, of a charity of choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of Terpening & Son Mortuary. Condolences may be expressed online at www.artesiafunerals.com.
