Artesia Public Schools Board members congratulated the Bulldog volleyball team on its second consecutive state championship with certificates of achievement at Monday’s meeting.

“I am so proud of these girls,” Superintendent Mike Phipps said. “I never, ever saw them give up. They held themselves to a higher esteem even when it got tough. I was the proudest guy at the Santa Ana that night.”

Phipps also announced that two legendary Artesia High School football coaches will be inducted into the New Mexico Sports Hall of Fame Feb. 28, 2012. Former Bulldog coach L.G. Henderson and his son, current coach Cooper Henderson, were selected for induction along with golf great Guy Wimberly and late Gallup girls’ basketball coach John Lomasney. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
