Meeting a day earlier than usual in order to allow certain councilors to attend the Municipal League Annual Conference in Las Cruces, the Artesia City Council considered and unanimously approved seven ordinances as well as hearing updates from various city departments Monday.
City Attorney John Caraway approached the council with the first two ordinances. The first ordinance considered was an amendment to merely revise the legal language of section 5-5-4 of the Artesia Municipal Code which refers to “dangerous buildings and premises – appeals”
The second ordinance Caraway requested the council pass was amending a section of 1-6-11 of the Artesia Municipal Code, concerning “termination, demotion and suspension of employment” for city employees. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
Before making any changes to the section, the ordinance required the governing body to conduct a hearing within 10 days from the date of the employee’s termination as well as having “as many, if not a unanimous council present.”
