The Lady Bulldog soccer team put forth a good effort Tuesday at the Mack Chase Athletic Complex against perennial powerhouse Hobbs. But despite trailing by just two midway through the second half, Artesia could not keep pace, and the Lady Eagles were able to pull away in the end for a 6-1 win.

After giving up the game’s first goal just under five minutes in, the girls in orange toughened up defensively and did a solid job of harassing the Eagles. The Lady ‘Dogs were able to hold Hobbs off until the final seven minutes – when the Lady Eagles booted in their second and third goals – while taking four shots on goal of their own to head in at the half down by three.

The early goings of the second half were a defensive battle with the Lady Bulldogs working to match Hobbs’ shots on goal, and with 21:49 to go in the game, Raina Wesson cut the Eagles’ lead to two, 3-1.

The girls in gold bumped their lead back to three just minutes later, however, and would score twice more in the final three minutes of the game to round out the final.

The Lady Bulldogs (2-3) will now prepare to travel to Santa Fe this weekend for Friday and Saturday
games against Capital and Santa Fe High.
