The Artesia Police Department has released additional information regarding a shooting incident that occurred Saturday in the 500 block of South 20th Street.
APD officers were dispatched just after 11 a.m. Saturday in reference to shots fired. Upon arrival, they found a male victim in his 20s suffering from gunshot wounds to his extremities. While on scene, police received a call that a second gunshot victim had arrived at the Artesia General Hospital ER.
Officers dispatched to AGH found a male in his 30s suffering from wounds to his extremities and abdomen. It was determined he had been in the same area as the first victim at the time he was shot.
Both victims were airlifted. The male in his 20s is currently expected to recover. The male in his 30s is, at last report, listed in critical condition.
The APD, with the Eddy County Sheriff’s Office assisting, was on scene throughout Saturday afternoon, processing for physical evidence, which was recovered. Cmdr. Lindell Smith of the APD says physical and testimonial evidence continues to be gathered, and detectives continue to follow up on leads concerning the persons involved and vehicles that were seen in the area at the time.
