A 24-year-old Artesia man was arrested after he was allegedly caught red-handed Monday in an attempt to embezzle $465.04 worth of ribeye steaks from Fenn’s Country Market.

Joseph Vogel, an employee of the store’s meat department, was reportedly observed by a witness moving the meat to his car earlier that day. The witness alleged Vogel had been regularly “stealing meat and trading it for drugs,” according to a criminal complaint filed Monday.

When officers from the Artesia Police Department arrived on scene they observed “a pile of meat in the back seat of a red Mercury.” … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
