A 30-year-old Artesia man was arrested Wednesday night in connection with a stabbing which occurred earlier that day.

John Jackson was charged with aggravated battery inflicting great bodily harm or death after he admitted during an Artesia Police Department interrogation to stabbing a man.

At 5:14 p.m., Wednesday, police and emergency personnel were dispatched to 1304 S. First Street and ob-served a man who had sustained numerous, puncture-type stab wounds to his torso.

“Jackson was identified as a suspect through a process of elimination of people that were at the crime scene during the time of the incident,” said APD Sgt. Lindell Smith.

After EMTs had transported the victim to Artesia General Hospital (AGH), the victim’s parents led authorities to the victim’s residence located in the 1500 block of South First Street.

Moments after they arrived, a red SUV pulled into the residence. The passenger and driver of the vehicle were questioned as to the location of Jackson. They told police a man known to them only as “J.R.” — later discovered to be Jackson — resided in a trailer next door and had called them earlier wanting a ride from the rodeo arena. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
