An Artesia man charged with his sixth DWI offense was bound over to district court on Tuesday.

According to the report, 42-year-old Rodney Almanza was arrested on Saturday, June 11, and charged with driving while under the influence, driving while license suspended or revoked, roadways laned for traffic and open container.

The report reads that at approximately 12:20 on the morning of Almanza’s arrest, an officer observed a brown Jeep traveling south in the right outside lane near Four Dinkus Road. The Jeep allegedly swerved into the officer’s lane and nearly collided with his patrol unit. The officer indicated that the Jeep continued to drive southbound and was having trouble maintaining the left outside lane.

After the Jeep was pulled over, the officer reportedly observed an open can of beer in the middle console. According to the report, Almanza’s speech was slurred and his eyes were bloodshot. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
