Memorial Mass is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Maria J. Marquez of Artesia.

Marquez, 95, passed away Saturday, Dec. 28, 2019, at Artesia General Hospital, surrounded by her loved ones.

Fr. A.L. Vijaya Raju will officiate the services. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Terpening & Son Mortuary.

A rosary will be recited at 1 p.m. Friday at Our Lady of Grace.

Maria was born Feb. 5, 1924, in El Mulato, Chihuahua, Mexico, the daughter of Santos and Maria (Lujan) Saucedo.

On Oct. 23, 1943, she married Andres G. Marquez in Mexico.

In 1950, Andres, a U.S. citizen, brought his family to the United States. He and Maria worked at several farms in Loving, Hagerman and Cottonwood, finally settling in Artesia.

She worked as a housekeeper and was an excellent cook.

She was also a member of El Apostalado and volunteered in the church kitchen at Our Lady of Grace. She loved playing Bingo, and her heart was content when she knew everyone who visited her home was fed. She loved being around her family, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and greatgreat- grandchildren.

Survivors include her brother, Juan Saucedo; daughter Elma Sanchez and husband Faustino; daughter-in-law Martha M.

Marquez; grandchildren Sonia Carbajal, Stephanie Carbajal, Michelle Garcia and husband Noe, and Mark Marquez; greatgrandchildren Jacobo Andres Carbajal, Elianna Longoria, Diego Samora, Krystal Garcia, Sarah Garcia, Marcus Garcia, Manny Garcia, Mckenzie Garcia, Destiny Marquez, Ciara Tesillo and Calina Tesillo; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Andres Marquez, on March 25, 1996; son Manuel Marquez; grandson Manuel Marquez Jr.; and sister Paula Saenz.
