Marian McGeachy

Memorial services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, at Hermosa Church of Christ for Marian Louise (Riley) McGeachy of Artesia.

McGeachy, 79, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2018, at Lakeview Christian Home in Carlsbad.

Leonard Lauriault will officiate the services. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Terpening & Son Mortuary.

Marian was born Oct. 19, 1939, the first girl born at the then-new Artesia General Hospital and the daughter of T.P. “Pat” and Lilly Louise (Newman) Riley.

She was a member of National Honor Society and attended Abilene Christian College after graduating from Artesia High School in 1957.

On July 11, 1958, she married W.A. “Bill” McGeachy in Artesia, and the couple celebrated their 60th anniversary this year.

Together, they had three children: W.P. “Bill” McGeachy and wife MaryJane of Alamogordo, Lisa Louise Lauriault and husband Leonard of Tucumcari, and Glen Alan McGeachy of Tucumcari. Grandchildren include Jennifer Lynn Brown, Justin Lane Brown and Jarrett Lee Brown, and great-grandchildren are Ashlyn Fay Smith and Patric Ray Szaloy.

Marian and Bill owned and operated Riley Oil Company in Artesia. She had been a Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader for years. One of the things she greatly enjoyed was getting together monthly with the “Girls of 57.” She loved people and made many friends wherever she went. She was a faithful, lifelong member of the Church of Christ.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Lakeview Christian Home in Carlsbad or the New Mexico Christian Children’s Home in Portales.

Arrangements are under the direction of Terpening & Son Mortuary. Condolences may be expressed online at www.artesiafunerals.com.
