All aboard the Polar Express!
At 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, head down to the Ocotillo Performing Arts Center for a free community event, sponsored by Artesia National Bank.
Each child in attendance will receive a golden ticket, hot chocolate, popcorn, and a small gift presented from an important guest of the North Pole, and the “Polar Express” movie will be shown.
Guests are encouraged to come in their pajamas.
“This project was first brought to our attention from our very own membership director, Jenna Secrist,” said Artesia Arts Council Executive Director Laurie Schotz. “Jenna tearfully stated at a staff meeting, ‘My daughter was going through a difficult time, and a librarian shared the ‘Polar Express’ with several students and gave them a bell to take home. It was so important to her that year and every year to follow that when we take out the decorations, we think of that special librarian that gave back the word BELIEVE to a small child.’
“The staff and the Artesia Arts Council decided this was a way we could give back to the community and hopefully offer something unique and memorable to each child and family.”
Due to the OPAC staff’s strong ties to their furry friends, it is suggested, but not mandatory, that attendees bring a donation for Paws & Claws.
“As a nonprofit, we are trying to reach out to another nonprofit to sweeten their holidays as well, and after all, our pets are our extended family!” said Schotz.
