Detectives and supervisiors at the Artesia Police Department have recently been provided with the technology geek’s latest hunger: the Apple iPad.
“The police department is moving toward using technology to our advantage,” Sgt. Lindell Smith of the APD said on Thursday. “If there is some tool or item out there that can help us do our job more efficiently we will look at it and value it on its merits.”
The 9.7-inch LED-backlit touch-screen device operates through a myriad of applications or “apps” which enable users to operate the iPad much like a personal computer. Features include a web browser, email, time management tools, maps, and even location abilities if one should misplace the device.
“Just because we are a smaller agency doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t be able to use that technology to our advantage,” Smith said. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
