ARTESIA — A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle Thursday evening on 26th Street, leading to a closure on the road while the Artesia Police Department (APD) investigated the scene.
Officers responded just after 7 p.m. Thursday to the area. APD Cmdr. Pete Quinones reports that a female pedestrian had been walking north on 26th on the right-hand side of the road when she was struck from behind by a vehicle also heading northbound.
Quinones said the vehicle left the scene, but the driver called a short time later to report that she had struck something but did not know what.
The pedestrian was airlifted with injuries to her leg. The APD is continuing to investigate the incident, and anyone with potential information is asked to call the department at 575-746-5000.
