The Artesia Historical Museum and Art Center hosted the Artesia Public Library’s Summer Reading Program participants on Thursday for a fun program on playing in the mud — I mean, making adobe bricks. The kids did everything themselves — from collecting their dirt and sifting out the rocks and debris to mixing in the sand and grass clippings (in place of straw) to molding the bricks and turning them out to dry. Above, a team of adobe-makers sifts out rocks and debris from their dirt. Below, the finished bricks being set out to dry in the sun. At bottom, a family mixes their adobe and molds it into bricks.
