The Artesia Police Department is continuing to work to identify suspects in a traffic-accident-turned-shooting Tuesday afternoon.
The incident began around noon Tuesday with a traffic accident in the area of Roselawn and Gage avenues. The driver of one of the vehicles was shot and proceeded to drive downtown, where he made contact with APD officers near Second and Main streets.
“The entire story concerning the incident has not been completely gathered and depends on victim and witness cooperation,” Cmdr. Lindell Smith of the APD said today.
Smith says the APD has of yet been unable to develop any suspects but that a red Dodge pickup is believed to be associated with the incident.
The victim was transported Tuesday to Artesia General Hospital and has since been released. He is expected to fully recover. He has declined to cooperate with the police in the investigation.
Anyone with information concerning the incident is urged to contact the APD at 746-5000 or, anonymously, Crime Stoppers of Eddy County at 575-887-1888, by emailing a tip via artesianm.gov/tips, or by texting the code word StopACrime plus the tip to 274637.
