An Artesia man is facing a maximum of 20 years in federal prison after pleading guilty Tuesday to methamphetamine trafficking and firearms charges under a plea agreement with the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Floyd Albert Sherrell, 33, pleaded guilty to the charges in federal court in Las Cruces. He was arrested Sept. 1, 2015, for unlawfully possessing firearms on June 10, 2014, and distributing meth on June 12, 2014, in Eddy County. At the time, Sherrell was prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition due to a prior larceny of a firearm and burglary conviction. The indictment also included forfeiture allegations requiring Sherrell to surrender $1,300 to the United States.
During Tuesday’s hearing, Sherrell admitted to selling four firearms to an undercover law enforcement agent on June 10, 2014, and selling 25 grams of pure meth to an undercover agent on June 12, 2014.
Sherrell now faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison, followed by no less than three years of supervised release. A sentencing hearing has not yet been scheduled.
