Private funeral services will be held for Prudencio Briseno of Artesia.

Briseno, 100, passed away Monday, April 20, 2020, at his home.

Fr. A.L. Vijaya Raju will officiate the services, with interment to follow at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Freddy Perches, Steve Vargas, Gabe Briseno, Mario Barragan, Estevan Vargas and John Groh.

Prudencio was born April 28, 1919, in Dayton, the son of Jesus and Estanislada (Navarrette) Briseno.

He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.

On Nov. 8, 1941, he married Jila Hernandez in Artesia.

Our dad was tenacious and determined. He was a hard worker and never shied away from a task that needed doing. He lived through the Depression, World War II, and life’s ups and downs but never gave up. Instead, he chose perseverance, love and joy.

One of his greatest joys was his family and friends. Our “social butterfly” loved people. Those of you who knew and loved him know the kind of person he was. Thank you for enriching his life by simply being his friend.

He was a great example of how to live life to the fullest. We will miss him terribly, but we hold on to the hope of one day seeing him again. Hold on to your dance cards, ladies, the “Dancing King” will be waiting for you! Survivors include his children, Angie Vargas and husband Frank, Albert Briseno and wife Linda, Florencio’s wife Erlinda Briseno, Lupe Campos, Salomon Briseno, Dolores Barragan and husband Omar, Ruben Briseno and wife Delia, and Richard Briseno and wife Carmen; 30 grandchildren; and 48 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jila, on Jan. 11, 2013; his parents, Jesus and Estanislada Briseno; son Florencio Briseno; grandchildren Paul Anthony Almanza, Ricky Briseno, Marisa Barragan and DeAnna Fe Briseno; nine brothers; and three sisters. Prudencio was the last living sibling.

The family wishes to thank Encompass Hospice for the wonderful comfort care they provided. Our most heartfelt gratitude to his caregiver, Pina Saiz, who was so diligent and caring in his care. We also thank his loving friend Rita, who kept a close eye on him by calling him daily and dropping by to check on him, and the Senior Center for looking after “Prudi.” Thank you, Terpening & Son, for your care and comfort.

Arrangements are under the direction of Terpening & Son Mortuary. Condolences may be expressed online at http://www.artesiafunerals.com.
