TO THE EDITOR:
When people have been residents in Artesia for decades as I have, we begin to feel that we have earned the right to stand up and speak out concerning matters that concern our town and Eddy County. It takes many of us to do that, not just a few, before we can be listened to by our elected officers.
Elections are soon here, this coming June 7. We ought to take time to know the character and the record of those who are running for this election; it’s easy to do. Use the email and phone numbers that are always on their brochures. Take time to talk with them before the election.
The Senior MealSite was visited the other day by an Eddy County commissioner (District 2) who wants to be reelected June 7. Everyone was trying to get his attention. I didn’t intend to let an opportunity pass by to meet and talk to this big “teddy bear” man about my concerns regarding Artesia’s dog shelter.
I read Royce Pearson’s brochure and was quite impressed with his record. He is easy to talk to – once you corner his ear like I did. I found him to be quite well-informed. I believe Royce Pearson is a real treasure for Artesians. I don’t think we can afford to lose him as commissioner of District 2. It’s our choice, Artesians – let’s keep him.
