The Third Annual Red Dirt Black Gold music festival is fast approaching (Aug. 26), and there is still time for teams to enter the festival’s Oilfield Olympics event.

This event is NOT just for oilfield-related workers — anyone that wants to test out their skills and endurance is welcome to enter and compete.

Each team needs four members (plus alternates, if you want) to compete in the four stations: the Drill Bit Toss (harder than you think — those bits are HEAVY), the Keiser Sled Smash, the Barrel Brigade Race, and the Battery Location Obstacle Course (it’s kind of diabolical).

The entry fee is $100 and is open to any team — no company sponsorship is necessary. Prizes will be awarded for First, Second, and Third Place, plus Best Team Spirit. To enter, register at www.artesiaacd.com/rdbg-oilfield-olympics; for more information, contact Debbie Edwards at the Artesia Chamber of Commerce, 746-2744 or debbie@artesiachamber.com.

Team Par Five has won this event for the past two years, and oilfield workers, fitness buffs, public service workers, and anyone else is hereby challenged to see if you’ve got what it takes to beat the champs! Even if you don’t want to participate, this event is a lot of fun to watch, so come on down!

This year’s Oilfield Olympics is generously sponsored by Artesia General Hospital.
