Registration is underway for the variety of events that will accompany this year’s Fourth of July celebration in Artesia.

The day’s sporting events will begin with the Changing Lives Coalition’s Star-Spangled Dash at 7 a.m. at Jaycee Park.

Two races are available (5K and 10K Color Dash), and preregistration is available at a cost of $30 for ages 18 and up, and $15 for ages 6-17. There is no charge for children 5 and under.

Race-day registration will begin at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 4, with all fees increased by $5. To preregister or for more information, visit www.changinglivesnm.com or call 736-7024.

The Artesia Country Club’s annual Firecracker Golf Scramble will tee off at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. on the Fourth.

The six-person-format scramble has a registration fee of $25 per person. To register, call the ACC pro shop at 746-6732.

Beginning at 9 a.m. at Jaycee Park will be a four-on-four coed volleyball tournament.

The tournament does not have a player limit for teams, but only two men can be on the court at one time. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. July 4, and the cost is $15 per person. For more information, contact Becky at 308-8019.

The DOES’ annual Fourth of July parade will also commence at 9 a.m. on the Fourth and will move east on Main Street from Bulldog Boulevard to Second Street. Entry forms will soon be available at the Artesia Chamber of Commerce.

The Firefighters’ Olympics will follow the parade at Jaycee Park.

And of course, the evening would not be complete without the fireworks extravaganza, to be produced by J&M Displays of Colorado.

The show will begin at 8:45 p.m. at Jaycee Park, and the chamber is still seeking sponsors. For more information, call 746-2744.
