A revised version of the Artesia Municipal Pet Ordinance passed almost unanimously at a meeting of Artesia City Council Tuesday night.

The only councilman who voted against the ordinance was Manuel Barragan.

The document implements many changes to the previous document including the redefinition of the term “vicious animal,” a clear definition of the pet adoption process and several structural improvements.

Mayor Pro Tem Terry Hill said much effort had been placed into the document’s revision.

“We’ve looked and relooked and rewritten it,” said Hill. “(The revised copy) is much better than the one we had before.”

“I sit before you a hopeful man,” said Artesia Police Department (APD) Chief Don Raley as the ordinance came up for discussion.

Raley agreed with Hill that a lot of thought had been put into the document and postulated it was time to pass the revised document into municipal law. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
