A 21-year-old Roswell man was arrested Thursday afternoon in connection with a stabbing that took place last month.

Officers with the Roswell Police Department served a warrant on Anthony Ray Romero Thursday at the Raintree Apartments in the 1200 block of West McGaffey Street, the same location as the stabbing.

The incident occurred March 22 at the Raintree Apartments. Investigators determined Romero and the 24-year-old male victim, also of Roswell, met the evening of March 21 through a mutual friend while drinking at a local restaurant. The three men later met again, sometime between 1 and 3 a.m. March 22, at Romero’s apartment.

A verbal altercation between Romero and the victim broke out, followed by a physical fight, during which Romero is alleged to have stabbed the victim, resulting in injuries to the victim’s chest, abdomen, back and left hand. The victim continues to recover.

Romero is charged with attempted first-degree murder. He remains in custody at the Chaves County Detention Center on a $25,000 cash-only bond.
