Marie Kelsey

Memorial services were held Friday, Nov. 3, 2017, at Zapata Funeral Home Chapel in Spur, Texas, for Ruby Marie Kelsey of Dickens, Texas.

Kelsey, 83, went to live with her Heavenly Father late Sunday evening, Oct. 29, 2017.

Interment followed the services at the Dickens Cemetery. Pallbearers were Edward Kelsey, Bobby Kelsey, Wesley Kelsey, Greg Kelsey, Mike Powell and Skyler Powell.

Marie was born May 5, 1934, in Madisonville, Texas. When she was able, she attended the Church of Christ in Dickens.

Marie met the love of her life, Jimmie, at a rodeo dance in Seymour, Texas, where they were later married and spent 65 years together. During those 65 years, Marie and Jimmie lived in numerous cities in Texas and lived in Artesia, N.M., for 20 years, where they raised their family. Coming back to Texas, they eventually settled in Dickens.

Marie was a devoted wife and mother. Her family was the most important part of her life, and she was always there for her children when, even as adults, she was needed. The family enjoyed fishing, where Marie sometimes caught the biggest fish!

She liked getting dressed up and going to dances or spending time at the Inn of the Mountain Gods. She loved laughing and spending time with her family more than anything. She liked taking trips but was always anxious to get back home.

Survivors include her husband, Jimmie; sons Edward Kelsey and wife Karen, and Bobby Kelsey and wife Zonna; grandchildren Wesley Kelsey and wife Tiffany, Arren Powell and husband Mike, Travis Kelsey and wife Brandi, and Jeremy Kelsey; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild, Peyson Powell.

She was preceded in death by her beloved dogs, Buffy and Sam, and her cat, Buttons.

Arrangements were under the direction of Zapata Funeral Home.
